Doug And Myrna Our Story
Myrna Charlette Cable was born in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada on October 17, 1947. She was Baptized when she was about 1 month old. Besides school, she loved to ice skate. Her father was a Railroad Engineer and sometimes took her with him in the locomotive.
Myrna moved to California with her parents when she was 15 years old. She wasn't much interested in boys until she met Douglas Dye. It was love at first site. Doug was 16 years old Myrna had been Baptized on Doug's first birthday.
They wanted to get married, but their parents insisted on them waiting until they were at least 18 years old. They were Married on October 23, just 5 days after she turned 18. It was a match made in heaven; you couldn't separate them. Myrna's parents, brother, and sister all passed away in Myrna and Doug's first years of marriage.
Myrna and Doug were each other's first love and had no secrets and shared everything. They were each other's best friends and true Soulmates. They chose not to have children. She went to classes and became a US citizen. Also, a Legal Secretary, set up several businesses, Pilot in training including aerobatics and Real Estate Broker to name a few of Myrna's accomplishments. But if you were to ask her, she would say "caring for Doug is what I enjoy the most". Myrna was the woman behind her man. They built several successful businesses together including flying, auto racing adventures and a Real Estate Brokerage.
Myrna was diagnosed with Cancer in 2001. She was very brave and didn't want to tell anyone. Not many people knew she had Leukemia and was given 2 weeks to live in 2006. They went to City of Hope and she ended up with a stem cell transplant as a last resort. Doug was right there caring for her and wouldn't leave her side.
After 17 years Myrna lost her battle with cancer and passed peacefully in the early morning on May 17, 2018, holding hands with her best friend and husband Doug. At Myrna's request, she was laid to rest wearing her gorgeous original Wedding Dress and with her original wedding ring on. Myrna made Doug promise to have a private service. Also, Myrna requested that only Doug would be allowed to view her. Myrna leaves behind her loving husband Doug and a few Cousins in Canada. Thank you for reading this and blessings to all. 2026 A NOTE FROM DOUG
Hi people, in the Year 2001, my beautiful wife and I had worked very hard through the years and had well over seven digits put away for our retirement. I was elected President of the Southern California Dodge Viper Club. That was a two-year commitment. We decided we would retire after that.
It was then that our lives changed forever. Also in 2001, Myrna was diagnosed with Cancer. In 2005, the Cancer had progressed to Leukemia. After many treatments of Kemo, the Doctor told us to go home and get our lives in order for what's to come. She said Myrna had about two weeks to live. We decided to go forward with a Stem Cell transplant, very risky, not having a compatible donor. Myrna's immune system would be severely compromised.
Myrna was my true Soulmate. Unconditional love. Never any lies, and we shared everything. I said to her. We have both worked hard for our retirement fund. As of this minute, we are retired, no more work. Where and what would you like to do, Europe, whatever you want. Her answer was "let's go racing, but we must win, no matter the cost". We had a blast racing our Viper. Winning the Western Division Championship and the National Championship every year we raced.
We drove our new Monaco Motorhome to tracks all over the US, winning every race. Myrna passed away in 2018. I sold our House, Business, Motorhome, Trailer and Vipers. I found a cool place to live. I own my home and the land it sits on. No payments. After my savings ran out, I've been struggling to live on my SS. However, I have a couple of things in the works that could create more income.
So far, I have no regrets. I'm glad Myrna had a Joyful end to her life. Myrna was baptized in Canada on my very first birthday. I've arranged to be baptized on her birthday this year. God Bless her. I miss her beyond description.
